Correction of deformations in books through vacuum packaging

Abstract

When a book has been wet and is air-dried, it became generally very deformed. The following pages describe a method of correcting deformations by vacuum packaging of three copies of original material. The main objective of the study is not to demonstrate the efficiency of the method to correct deformations, which we had already verified and published, but to determine if the method can be safely applied in books on whose pages have been carried out consolidation treatments with aqueous adhesives, to evaluate the risk of adhesion of these treated pages to each other.
