Abstract

This article offers the transcription and critical musical edition of four polyphonic works for four voices, which could be considered as representative of the habitual composing forms in the second half of the 17th century in Valencia (and, perhaps, in a broader sense, throughout the Hispanic sphere). The aforementioned pieces are described, analyzed and studied, all written down in Spanish language and notated by relevant composers of the so-called Golden Age of Spanish arts and literature (Vicente García, Gracián Babán, Gaspar Úbeda and fray Manuel Correa). This paper tries to find possible connections between the selected works, aiming to form, if possible, concrete typologies around the villancico and the tone.
