Abstract

In 1916, the Catalan violinist Joan Manén recorded Beethoven's Violin Concerto in D Major Op. 61 in Barcelona, a decade before other great violinists offered the versions that had been considered pioneering until now. Manén’s personal copy was bequeathed to the Museu de la Música de Barcelona and today serves us to study the main stylistic features of the violinist through the comparison of musical sources and the analysis of his own reflections on technique and interpretation.
