The recolocation of a heritage collection: the experience of the Menéndez Pelayo Library (Santander)

Abstract

The comprehensive restoration project of the Menéndez Pelayo Library started in 2018. Its purpose was to improve the library’s facilities to accommodate its precious objects. The whole building was vacated and all its contents (bibliographic collections, documentaries, art pieces, furniture, IT equipment, records, and reference books) were moved, so that the restoration work could begin. The steps and measures taken to complete this intricate move are the subject of this paper.
