Author Guidelines

1. Guidelines for the Submission and Presentation of Articles

Submissions must be sent online by registering on the electronic OJS platform (Open Journal System) where the journal is hosted. In case of access problems, please contact revista.sinobjeto@uclm.es.

Articles may be written in Spanish or English and must not have been previously published or be under review by other scientific journals.

Sin Objeto only publishes articles by the same author and/or co-author when at least 24 months have elapsed since their previous publication in the journal.

Sin Objeto does not charge authors any fees for article processing or publication.

Sin Objeto accepts articles, reviews, specific artistic projects, and interviews addressing topics related to the journal’s editorial policy and whose reflections or proposals are relevant to the field of contemporary artistic practice. Submitted manuscripts must comply with the guidelines described here and include appropriate and up-to-date references to the relevant literature on the topic addressed. Only articles and reviews will undergo the peer-review process. Interviews/conversations and visual projects will be assessed by the Editorial Board.

Length

Submitted articles must have a maximum length of 6,500 words, including abstracts, notes, references, and appendices.
Reviews must not exceed 1,000 words.

Format

The submission file must be in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect format.

The text must be presented in Times New Roman, size 11, line spacing 1.3, fully justified. The first line after the title should not be indented.
The second paragraph and subsequent paragraphs of each section should have a first-line indentation.

Page margins should be set as follows: 1.6 cm. (right), 1.8 cm. (left), 2.5 cm. (top), 2.3 cm. (bottom).

Manuscripts must follow APA 7th edition. Some citation examples are provided below:

Article Structure

The first page must include the title of the article, abstract, and keywords. The article text should follow, then the notes (if any), and finally the references. The title, abstract, and keywords must appear in both Spanish and English.

Abstract and Keywords

All manuscripts must include an abstract of between 150 and 200 words summarizing the purpose and subject of the article, the methodology used, the main results, and the primary conclusions.
Authors must also include three to five keywords that define the topic of the article and help identify its content.

Notes

Notes must appear at the end of the text, not as footnotes.

Abbreviations

Only universally accepted abbreviations may be used.

Author Identification

Any identification of authorship must be avoided, especially on the first pages of the manuscript. The name(s) of the author(s) must not appear in the manuscript. This information should be entered in the electronic platform and must not be present in the manuscript file submitted for review.

On the platform, authors must include the full name(s) of the author(s), full name of their institutional affiliation(s), postal and email address of the corresponding author. Authors submitting a manuscript to Sin Objeto may also include their ORCID identifier (if available).

Images

Images may be included as part of the manuscript for citation, analysis, commentary, or critical evaluation, given the research purpose of the publication. Images must include a caption with the full reference to the artwork and the publication or source where it was obtained.

Format: JPG, resolution 150 dpi, maximum 700 pixels width.

Evaluation Process

After receiving manuscripts, the Editorial Board selects those that, due to their relevance, thematic interest, or alignment with the editorial policy or the theme of the issue, will be sent—without author identification—for anonymous evaluation by two external reviewers. Throughout the process, both the authors’ and reviewers’ identities remain anonymous. Reviewers are researchers selected by the journal’s board, which chooses the most appropriate experts based on their experience and suitability for the submitted manuscripts. The editors analyze the reviewers’ reports and may consult members of the Editorial Board in order to reach a decision regarding whether an article is publishable. Decisions are based on the reviewers’ reports.

If the editors still have doubts after the evaluation process, the manuscript will be reassessed in consultation with members of the Editorial Board according to their area of expertise in order to reach a final decision.

If an article is not considered publishable, the decision will be justified to the author, and guidance will be provided for possible revisions.

Evaluation results will be communicated to the author(s) within a maximum period of six months after submission.

2. Specific Guidelines for the Actions Section

For the Actions section, the journal accepts reviews of exhibitions and relevant publications related to contemporary art, including doctoral theses.

Maximum age: two years from the date of publication, translation, or reprint at the time the review is submitted.

Reviews must begin with the technical details of the exhibition or publication being reviewed.

3. Specific Indications for the Proyects Section

The Proyects section consists of artistic works created by individual artists or collectives specifically for this publication. Submitted proposals must constitute a conceptually coherent project and not simply a collection of images. Each proposal may have a length of between 1 and 10 pages.

Submissions for the Proyects section must be presented with their final layout in a PDF file, DIN A4 size, with a maximum file size of 15 MB. The journal understands that this file represents the final design prepared by the author(s). If any modification becomes necessary, it will only be made with prior authorization and in dialogue with the author(s).

Submissions to the Proyects section must be accompanied by documentation in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect format including the following information: name and surname(s) of the author(s), artistic name of the author(s), title of the work, year of production, complete and detailed technical specifications of the work.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements:

  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements summarized in the Author Guidelines, which appear in Submissions.
  • If the submission is sent to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review must be followed.

Privacy Statement

The names and email addresses entered in this journal will be used exclusively for the purposes stated by the journal and will not be made available to third parties or used for any other purpose.
