Daniel Buren and the Non-Collectible
Main Article Content
Abstract
Daniel Buren’s site-specific work made during the sixties and seventies examines the frames of meaning that are linked to certain ways of production, distribution, conservation and exhibition of art, that prevail in the institution but are simultaneously concealed by it. Literalness is his usual proceeding to operate specifically in architectural, urban contexts, and in particular symbolic spaces of the art institution.
In this paper we will pay attention to some theory-practice contributions of this French artist’s institutional critique early work, inviting to reflect about the signalling and eroding of the idea of traditional collection they suggest. We believe it can be a valuable point of departure from which to continue thinking about the practice of collecting nowadays.Article Details
